That bed is so money!

I am cringing at the title of this post but I just had to do it.....

A new friend sent photos of her money bag pillow resting ever so comfortably on her beautiful bed.

I love it!

Flip Flop Floor Mat

I recently spotted these in a back issue of Domino. I love the colors! They are actually floor mats made from recycled flip flops. Factories end up with a surplus of rubber when making the sandals. Now the extra shreds are turned into a stylish floor mat! You can purchase them at uncommon goods.

Quilt weather!

It is actually quite chilly in Tucson. I broke out my quilted jackets. I have 3 and am thinking of collecting a couple more. Mine were bought from local thrifts years ago. The prices could not have reached more than 5 dollars a piece. Such a low price for a fitted quilt that blocks the dry desert wind like no tomorrow! Plus, they are just down right cute! Definitely a little hippie/folksy :) I found a couple on Etsy.... I also found a pattern to make your own! Problem is, one would need the pre-quilted fabric which I have seen before and have not been a fan of the designs.... who knows? I think that it is worth a little research :)

Pillow placement.....

I was skimming Domino and found a perfect home for my money bag pillows!

J. Crew creative director, Jenna Lyons has created the most exquisite bedroom. The photo above knocked me off of my feet! My most favorite part is the headboard tacked with feed sacks!

Lyons says, "I love taking simple materials and finding the beauty in them - letting things be what they are."

I feel the same :)

Dear Jenna,
If by some miracle, you stumble upon my teeny tiny blog, check out my shop. I think that you will like what you find!
Sincerely,
Rikkianne

I heart....

I was flipping through Domino and stopped suddenly on this page. For some reason, I absolutely LOVE it. I can't put my finger on it but I am pretty sure that the pairing of the dainty sheets (printed hearts, click for a better view) with a wool blanket is what is making me fall for the look! I am not usually drawn to super feminine but I really think that this is such a neat little balance.... girly, classic, comfy, etc.

Personally, I think that this shot is styled PERFECTLY. Once I fell all over the photo, I learned that it is the bedroom of Rita Konig (Domino Editor). No wonder :)

According to Domino, the heart sheets are D. Porthault. A website is coming soon. Very interested in that.

Newspaper Yarn

I just had to post about this. I know that it has been floating around to a lot of sites and is a bit of old news. I just love it so much that I had to make a quick note of it.

Created by a Greetje van Tiem, this gorgeous yarn is both durable, recycled, and so very pleasing to the eye. Durable enough to construct upholstery and floor mats, the detail and colors would compliment any decor!

Visit the Greetje van Tiem site.

Face!

Sometimes I feel like this.....

The photo is from the movie, American Psycho. Christian Bale plays, Patrick Bateman, who is a psychopathic serial killer with some serious OCD. The movie is based on the book by, Brett Easton Ellis. I really enjoyed the book and must state the all too common opinion that it was much better than the film. I had to use this photo because it is probably my favorite scene in the movie. Bale goes through his daily beauty regimen. Insane! Yet, now that I am 31, I am starting to relate.

I have recently made the switch to Bare Minerals makeup and actually enjoy it! It does look very natural and is a nice change from liquid thickness on my face. The thing is, when you use Bare, you must clean your brushes regularly and the act of putting on makeup is quite the event. Swirl, tap, apply..... Swirl, tap, apply...... SWIRL, TAP, APPLY!!!!

I have also switched facial cleansers. Since I was going with more natural ingredients, I thought that my cleanser should be the same. So, I went on the hunt for organic beauty products. After, tons of magazine suggestions that were all way to pricey, I turned to Etsy. I am glad that I did! I found the most wonderful products from a seller by the name of Spa Goddess! I tried out her samples which were so very refreshing and then bought her skin care regimen. I am so in love with the cleansing grains! I am completely serious when I say that I have never had better skin! Everything is so fresh and natural. The lavender serum is a complete joy to experience!

I guess that even though I might feel like I am going a bit nuts with beauty products, at least I have found the right ones! I have to mention that Spa Goddess is having a great sale right now. Please check out the shop and buy up a few samples. You won't regret it:)

Folk Revival....

I am so into this right now. Folk Revival. I have a tear sheet from good ol Domino Magazine. It is from way back in March. It has taken me this long to look up some of the featured designers. I must thank Ursula for helping me see the light:) The tiles in the collection are fabulous. They were offered by the threepotatofourshop which is a new favorite of mine. Goodness, I really need to stop making Etsy treasuries and I might have known about this a bit sooner!!

Back to the Editor's picks. According to Garden Editor, Stephen Orr, "High-tech times make me long for earnest, earthy objects that stress craft over speed."

Well said!

I have really been aching to find out more about this new folk style / folk revival. What is it? Who is in it? I want to dive into it!!!

I have been working on my prints and am wondering how to title and categorize them. I went searching for some folk art lit. and did find a great book on the subject. It is titled, The Folk Art Tradition by Jane Kallir. Kallir starts off by discussing how difficult it is for people to define the art form. I want to use her exact quote explaining this difficulty....

"The concept of folk art is one of negation. It is a catchall category for misfits -- wallflowers at the dance of Western civilization."

Isn't that superb? I had to read it out loud a couple of times.

So, Kallir goes on to introduce three terms and their differences. It boils down to "Folk as opposed to elitist; primitive as opposed to civilized; naive as opposed to sophisticated."

Right now, I am thinking that my style would fall under self-taught and naive. Doesn't sound like a good selling point! hee
